The 3 stages to problem solving:

The emergent stage.

This is  the stage where the problem has no urgent effect, no immediate threat.

The mature stage.

That is where the problem is already causing some damage.

The crisis stage.

That's when the problem is no life threatening to the organisation.

A problem should always be solved at the emergent stage.

The 7 steps to solve problems:

1. Identify the problem.

2. Analyse the problem.

3. Describe the problem.

4. Look for root causes.

5. Develop alternative solutions.

6. Implement a decision

7. Measure results.

"Every time I write a book, and in one sentence, I write about what the book is about. If you can't do the same with describing the problem, don't go on."

"Many managers solve the problem at the symptomatic phase. But you have to cure it at the root cause."

"Think of as many solutions as you can, pass NO judgement on them, and be creative."

"Creativity is a must for problem solving."

"The manager who implements decisions consistently is the man or woman who thinks in advance: what could go wrong and what would I do?"

"Good idea's emerge from great brainstorming."
